In the last few weeks we have seen the Roatan property market bounce, a new president elected in the USA, a new world champion, the youngest ever in the F1and more opportunities for buying discounted property on Roatan than at any other time.
The property market on Roatan in not stagnant! it is not in decline, nor is it going to. As people all over the world fear for their savings and possible tax increases in 2009 ; people are already looking at Roatan as a safe place to move their savings and investments. Buying real estate on roatan allows the investor to buy into an economic centre that is only just starting to get on its feet compared to the existing Caribbean markets. With this in mind it will not be long 18-24 months before we see Roatan’s property market coming onto a par with those of the Cayman Islands.
What does this mean to you the investor? Well what it means is that right now you can pick up a 3600 sq ft three bedroom fully furnished and decorated water front condo with a boat slip for less than $800,000. In the Caymans this will set you back at least $1,850,000 to $3,500,000 so your $800,000 investment on Roatan has room to tripple over the next two years. Add in to that the rental income of anywhere between $2,400 and $4,400 a week at an average of 73% occupancy for high end condos on Roatan and you have an exceptional investment which will out perform any other market i know of.

It seems that Spirit air which currently runs a flight from San Pedro Sula to Southern Florida is expanding the flight to allow a direct connection to Roatan. The flight will now be (FL-SPS-RTN / RTN-SPS-FL). Spirit has been offering return flights for as little as $198 and is expected to offer the full Roatan return flight for under $350. As someone who travels a lot on business this will be a most valued addition to the flight schedule especially at such a discounted rate. Well done and good luck Spirit.

Each year the people of the bay islands look forward to the rains for several reasons. The first and only important one to me is the fishing! As the temperature cools down to a comfortable 24 C, the water temperature also drops. As all fisherman know that is when the fish start bighting.
This year we had a record 17ft 708lb blue marlin caught just 2 miles off the north shore. We have also had a bountiful supply of Tuna, Mahi Mahi and other tasty fish being caught. What does this mean for us? Well it means that at every day at five in the morning you see dozens of local and foreign fishermen all heading out for a couple of hours to see if they can catch something for the grill that night.
This morning was a wash out, literally! The rains were so heavy i turned back after an hour. Not that i am a fair weather fisherman, but fishing is supposed to be fun. So instead of my usual 2 hours on the water i headed home for a swim, some yoga and a banana and mango smoothy.

Welcome to Remax Roatan MLS. With the current economic crisis that is effecting the world people are concerned about how their investment will provide for them over the next 5, 10 and 15 years.
Roatan like all economies has suffered the effects of the global slow down; however unlike the rest of the world our property market has not suffered to the extent that was feared by many. This is mainly due to the fact that, with the current level of corporate investment being seen the near future looks extremely good.
* Roatan will have in excess of 1000 5star hotel rooms by the end of 2010
* Roatan will have in excess of 4000 visitors per day from Royal Caribbean & Norwegian cruise lines by 2010.
* Roatan is now a Free Trade Port with Tax breaks for USA citizens.
* Roatan is constantly receiving more direct flights to the USA, Canada and Europe.
All of this means that even though we are in a global economic slowdown careful investment in emerging markets such as Roatan can still help to balance out the falls sustained in the US and European markets.
